Hollywood Reels Slots

Hollywood-ReelsHollywood Reels will give you a title designed by Amaya, with a theme that gives us a taste of Hollywood and the great films that were made there. From vampire movies, to World War 2 classics or Indiana Jones adventures, you will find that Hollywood has brought a lot of enjoyment to people over the years, and that’s what this slot celebrates.

The game features provide the player with a standard collection of wilds, scatters and bonus games, with payouts going up to $62,500 (2,500x). There are 5 reels inside, plus the usual 9 paylines that Amaya often uses.

Features of Hollywood Reels

At a first glance, you will find this to be a fairly standard slot machine, with a few features available, but not all of them. At least one of those that are included is more limited than we’d like, but the bonus game might just bring the smile back to our faces.

The feature that seems underpowered here is the wild symbol. Giving us the image of a vampire from a black and white movie, the wild will use its powers of substitution to replace one of the other two movie related symbols (the World War 2 romance or the Indiana Jones character). It is not capable of substituting for any of the five playing cards, the bonus symbol or the two scatters. Substituting only for two out of ten symbols available doesn’t make it a terribly powerful wild, but its ability to give away the top jackpot does that.

The typical way that a scatter works is by offering prizes when a minimum number of matching symbols are on the reels. In this case, you also need them to be on adjacent reels. Prizes go from 1 to 2,700 credits, requiring 3+ scatters that match. Two types of cash awarding scatters exist, but they don’t offer prizes together. One of them has the movie reel on it, while the other has a Hollywood star.

Film Pick Feature

The Bonus symbol is the scatter that has the clapper image on it. The requirement is to have at least three of them present, though you get a 2x multiplier with four and 3x with five of them, so having more of them is a good thing.

Once the Film Pick starts, you get to click on the various Film Cans, which will reveal the multipliers you’re getting, each one used in combination with the total bet of the round. The Collect message will end the bonus game, when you get it. Depending on the rating of the movie you’ve picked, you get 1x, 2x or 5x multipliers (3 to 5 stars ratings).

Betting options and jackpots

Hollywood Reels has a decent payout potential, but it doesn’t offer it with small wagers. Though the betting range starts at just $0.01, it will go up to $225 if you max it out. Each payline may receive up to 5 coins, so 45 can be used for the total bet. Each coin has a value that can be anywhere between $0.01 and $5.

The jackpot in this game is worth about 2,500 times what you put in for a single line bet. Maximize that number, and you can expect 12,500 coins/$62,500 from the top prize. Use smaller values when it comes to the number of coins or their value, and the prize drops rather quickly in value.

Design and symbols

The kind of design that this slot goes after is the retro kind, the symbols used here reminding us of the beginnings of Hollywood, with black and white movies and World War 2 flicks being an important part of it. The hills of Hollywood with the famous sign are visible at the top, but everywhere else the background image is composed of red curtains.

Symbols: Vampire Movie (wild, 2,500x), Bonus Clapper (scatter), Movie Reel/Hollywood Star (scatters, 2,700 credits), Indiana Jones Movie (1,000x), World War 2 romance (750x), Ace (500x), King (250x), Queen (150x), Jack (100x) and 10 (50x).

Is It Worth Playing?

For movie fans, Hollywood Reels should be an appropriate choice. It’s got a decent design, high enough prizes and a good theme. The features are somewhat disappointing though, which is especially a problem when you expect a game about the entertainment industry.

The Hollywood Reels slot machine is offered through the Amaya platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
