Salsa Slots

SalsaSalsa is a dancing themed slot, but more than that, it’s also about Mexicans and about many of the things that come to mind when we think of them or their country. From the powerful sun, to the cactus plants of the desert, or the guitars and the Salsa dancing that they’re so good at, the game incorporates them all in a single game. It’s not the first game with a dancing theme out there, and it’s also not the best looking one, but it will do if you’re a fan of this particular style.

With 5 reels and only 9 paylines, Salsa doesn’t feel like a game that was recently released. The features and graphics don’t help much with that impression either, the former being comprised only of bonus games, plus a scatter and a wild, but both quite basic variants. The top prize is a little bit more interesting, the $50,000 it offers being a good reason to play this game.

Features of Salsa

A wild symbol with a multiplier, a scatter and a bonus game, these are the only features you get in Salsa. They should be enough to make the game interesting to play, especially if you have an affinity for the dancing world.

The Red Bean wild gives you the most value out of all the icons that are shown on the paytable. You get double the usual prize if a Red Bean wild substitutes for another symbol in a winning combo. The 2x multiplier is not the only extra that the wild has in store for you. You can also get the slot’s top jackpot with its help, when all five positions of a line are taken by wilds.

The Green Bean might not be capable of giving away the top jackpot or doubling prizes, but it’s still a valuable addition to the symbol line-up. You get both prizes and a bonus game out of it, in the right conditions. Since this is a scatter, the conditions concern only the number of Green Beans present on the screen, nothing else. Two to five Green Beans will pay 1x to 100x the triggering wager.

Bonus Game

The same Green Beans, when you get three or more, will award you three bonus rounds. In each round, you try to match the same symbol three times, by making picks, and the corresponding prize is won if you succeed.

Betting options and jackpots

With a bet of up to $45 allowed inside, Salsa requires only 9 coins of $5 to get to that amount. You use as many coins as you want lines active, the range being 1 to 9. These coins have values that you choose, with the lower one being at $0.05, while the highest is at $5.

A 10,000x multiple of the line bet is not bad at all for a game like this, especially since it can mean $50,000 in your pocket (less if the coin denomination was below $5).

Design and symbols

The design has all the right images in it, but the way they were drawn doesn’t make them precise enough, or appealing. The characters almost look like caricatures, while the objects don’t seem to have enough details to make them attractive. A desolate image with the desert, cactus plants and cow skulls fills the background, not the best setting for a game that should be about salsa dancing and having fun.

Symbols: Red Bean (wild, 5,000x), Green Bean (scatter, 100x the bet), Salsa Dancer (1,000x), Mexican Man (500x), Donkey (200x), Rodent (200x), Sun (150x), Bottle (100x), Noise Makers (100x), Guitar (100x) and Cactus (100x).

Is It Worth Playing?

The idea behind the theme is quite good, but the implementation doesn’t do much for me. Its rather bad design is accompanied by an average list of features and a half decent payout, so overall I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re not a fan of Salsa dancing.

Salsa can be found at any Cryptologic casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
