Off the Hook Slots

Off-the-HookThough the title might make you think that it’s about something uber cool, the truth is that it’s a much more mundane theme, related to fishing. The title refers to a fish that has escaped the angler’s trap, and it seems to be quite proud of itself. It’s not a bad theme all things considered, especially since this is a classic slot machine, a category in which fishing is not as well represented.

The game’s 3 reels are occupied by 1 win line. Betting on it will bring you prizes of up to $40,000, plus wild symbols that multiply smaller payouts by up to 4x.

Features of Off the Hook

The features which were added to the game are quite normal for a Microgaming classic slot machine, but don’t expect to see the wild or the multiplier it comes with in a really old machine, they had nothing like this back in the day.

The wild symbol is the one with the Fish in it. It’s capable of substituting for all the other symbols available in this slot, so if they’re trying to form a combination and the missing symbols have wilds sitting in those spots, the wilds will take that role. The combo will be formed, and depending on the number of participating wilds you also get some multipliers to improve the prize.

A single wild doubles the prize of the combo it’s a part of, while two wilds quadruple it. When three wilds are on the same line, the result is their own combo forming, so there is no multiplier used then. Instead, you get a payout of up to 8,000 coins.

Betting options and jackpots

As many other classic slots do, this one also allows for a maximum of three coins to be part of the bet, all of them used on a single payline. $0.25 is the minimum denomination of a coin, while $5 is the maximum. Three coins can have a maximum value of $15.

Use one or two coins in your bet, and each one will bring you 2,000 coins as part of the top reward (2,000 coins and 4,000 coins payouts, respectively). However, use three coins and you get 8,000 coins back, meaning an extra 2,000 coins is offered as an incentive to make a maximum bet. The value of the 8,000 coins goes up to $40,000.

Design and symbols

There is nothing to be truly impressed about, this is a classic game after all, but the background image is done in a lot more detail than I’m used to seeing from 3 reel titles. You see the lake situated in the middle of nature, the fisherman that just caught a boot instead of a fish, plus you have the logo where you see the missed capture acting all smug about it. If it wasn’t for the classic and quite basic symbols that are not themed, this could’ve been quite a decent slot machine.

Symbols: Fish (8,000 coins, wild), Artificial Lure (900 coins), Green Three Bars (300 coins), Pink Two Bars (150 coins), Blue One Bar (60 coins) and Berries (6 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

The fishing theme might appeal to those that enjoy this activity, but in most ways it’s a very common slot machine for Microgaming. If you don’t enjoy catching fish, then you can choose one of the many other titles that have different graphics and similar everything else.

This Off the Hook slot is offered by all online casinos with Microgaming software, playable either in practice or in real money mode.
