Pharaoh’s Tomb Slots

Pharaohs-TombLike so many other slot machines before it, Pharaoh’s Tomb is themed around Ancient Egypt, though an effort was made to make it about more than that, having a bit of a treasure hunt as well thrown in. The star of the slot is a Professor, an archaeologist, so at least we’re not seeing Cleopatra again. The Egyptian theme is very common among slot developers, and Microgaming has its own share of slots on the same topic.

A modern slot machine, it offers 5 reels with a total of 20 bet lines on them. You will discover that there are some very good features to take advantage of, with bonus games, scatters and wilds which have multipliers. Even the top jackpot is a very good one, going up to $60,000.

Features of Pharaoh’s Tomb

The game’s features include a wild symbol that has a multiplier, a scatter symbol and the Pharaoh’s Tomb bonus game.

The Pharaoh is a wild symbol that is only allowed to appear on two reels out of five. The 1st and the 5th reels are the ones that will host this symbol from time to time. The appearance of a wild will bring you a small prize, worth 2x the line bet. At the same time, the wild tries to be part of any combination that is formed on one of its paylines. It substitutes for another symbol and it gives you that missing symbol if it’s the wild from the 1st reel, or it completes the combo for better payouts if it’s the one from the 5th reel. Either way, the wild doubles the prize value when it manages to contribute to a combo’s creation.

The Scarab Amulet is another important part of the game. It is a symbol that has the ability to appear randomly on the reels, and as long as you have two to five of them present you’re going to get paid. The prizes vary between 2x and 100x what the wager is.

Bonus Game

The slot’s bonus feature is started by the Scarab Amulet, with 3+ scatters of this type being needed.

The bonus feature consists in three tombs that you advance through. You have three sarcophagi in each of the three tombs, with one of them holding a key. You have to choose one of the three, and hopefully it will be the one with the key inside.

Finding the key will allow you to advance to the next level, where once again you make a choice. Each key you find brings you a cash prize. When you don’t find the key, you get the consolation prize instead, worth twice the value of the triggering bet.

Get all three keys and complete the bonus feature, and your reward will be the treasure from the Pharaoh’s Tomb. Its value is at 100 times the triggering bet.

Betting options and jackpots

Though the game can be very profitable, it’s also very expensive to play if you go to the maximum wager. You can spend up to $400 on a single spin, with the 20 lines each accepting bets of up to $20 (20 coins of $1 at the maximum setting). You can get away with wagers as small as $0.01 per line, but the maximum prize value will be influenced as well.

The 3,000x top prize that is obtained with the help of the Archaeologist symbol will put a maximum of $60,000 in your account. You can improve its value with the wild’s help, which will double the jackpot when it contributes to it.

Design and symbols

Though there are a lot of slot machines on the market which have a theme inspired by Egyptians, this one does more than alright. It shows you a bit of a cartoon style Egypt, which works very well for it. The symbols are well designed, while the playing cards are not as annoying as they are in other slots, so you don’t really notice that they make up about half of the regular symbols. All in all, an excellent job from Microgaming’s designers.

Symbols: Pharaoh (wild, 2x), Archaeologist (3,000x), Scarab Amulet (100x bet, scatter), Sphinx (1,000x), Backpack (500x), Map (500x), Ace (200x), King (200x), Queen (150x), Jack (150x), 10 (100x) and 9 (100x).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s one of my favorite Egyptian themed slots when it comes to the visuals, and even the features are quite good overall, but the top payout of only 3,000x is something I am deeply disappointed with.

The Pharaoh’s Tomb slot machine is offered through the Microgaming platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
