Iron Duke Slots

Iron-DukeIron Duke is a slot machine that is themed around the battle of Waterloo, and dedicated to the winner of the confrontation, the Duke of Wellington. His opponent, Napoleon, is also shown among the symbols of the game. The two armies are both represented as well, and it’s a game that should be a must play if you’re a fan of one of the two sides that took part in the famous 1815 battle. The designer that did a great job with this theme is called Nuworks.

The reels of Iron Duke are taken over by up to 25 active bet lines. If you get a feature to activate you can expect a bonus game which takes you through a simplified version of the Waterloo battle, and which can offer you free spins and multipliers. Scatters and wilds are also used and the biggest prizes are worth $7,500.

Features of Iron Duke

The game relies on wild symbols, on scatters and on bonus games which will bring you free spins and multipliers.

The image of the Duke of Wellington is shown in one of the symbols, and since the slot is dedicated to him it should be no surprise that it also has an important role, being the wild. The role of a wild is to substitute for other symbols, bringing the player new combinations if it’s in the right place at the right time. Multiple wilds can also team up to form their own combo though, paying up to 7,500 coins when this happens.

A Cannon is the other important symbol here, used as a scatter which awards payouts as high as 200 times the triggering bet. You need a certain number of symbols to get a prize, between 2 and 5 of them, but it doesn’t matter where exactly they land on the reels.

Waterloo Feature

The game’s only bonus game gets started when 3+ Cannon scatters appear during the same round. You get a screen with the battlefield next, where Napoleon’s side is shown at the top and your three cannons are at the bottom.

You click on Fire to get the battle started. It will end when one of the two sides will lose all three cannons they own.

You Lose if Napoleon has at least one cannon at the end, while you have none. In this case, you get 8 free spins and 2x multipliers.

You Draw when both sides lose their three cannons, at the same time. This will bring you 10 free spins and 3x multipliers.

A Win will give you different rewards, depending on how many surviving cannons you have. One cannon remaining will mean 12 spins with 3x multipliers. Two cannons will bring you 15 spins and 4x multipliers. Win with all cannons intact, and your reward will be 25 free sins and 5x multipliers.

Retriggering the free spins, with 10 additional rounds, requires that you get 3 or more Cannon scatters at some point.

Betting options and jackpots

The game’s 25 lines require that you use 25 coins if you want to activate them all, or you can use fewer and have fewer chances to win as well. A coin’s value doesn’t reach a very high value, going up to $1, so you can spend $25 each round, no more.

When the wild is able to form its own combo, it can give you 7,500 coins, or up to $7,500.

Design and symbols

The game manages to make itself liked, and if you’re a fan of the battle of Waterloo you’re going to appreciate what the developers did with it. There aren’t as many themed symbols as I would’ve liked though, with playing cards being heavily used. Symbols offer you the two generals of the French and British armies as well, plus the weapons and equipment pieces that were used by them.

Symbols: Duke of Wellington (7,500 coins, wild), Cannon (200x bet, scatter), Napoleon (2,500 coins), British Flag (2,000 coins), Cannonballs (500 coins), Helmet (300 coins), Pistol (300 coins), Ace (250 coins), King (250 coins), Queen (250 coins), Jack (200 coins), Ten (200 coins) & Nine (200 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s an excellent game, with the theme being a good choice, with some cool features (especially the Waterloo bonus game) and even some half decent payouts.

The Iron Duke slot machine is offered through the NuWorks platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
