Red Mansion Slots

Red-MansionIGT’s Red Mansions is a modern game, with a theme inspired by the Chinese Imperial family. There are beautiful characters on the reels, dressed like nobility and all things considered I’d say that this is one of the best looking Asian themed games out there. IGT did a great job, but obviously the theme is not that original. The features of Red Mansions are its biggest pros though, as you will find out in our review.

You are being offered a combination of 40 paylines with 1024 ways to win, and it’s up to you if you use only the former or if you combine it with the latter. They all fit on the same 5 reels. As for the features, they offer free spins, scatter symbols and wilds. Even the top jackpot looks great when it comes from the paylines, being worth $150,000.

Features of Red Mansion

Plenty of great features were introduced in this game, like the mix of paylines and ways to win, the MultiWay Xtra option, wild symbols, scatters and free spins. As you can see, there are a lot of great and different features that you can take advantage, and they should keep things interesting even if you easily get bored.

The vast majority of the slots you see on the market will offer paylines or ways to win, but rarely do you get the option to take advantage of both in the same game. The payline system is the one you’re used to, 40 of them being used and allowing you to win big. The ways to win system pays a lot less, but you get 1024 chances to win each round. There are different paytables for the two. Both pay from left to right, but the paylines need the symbols to form up together, while the MultiwayXtra system needs you to have them on adjacent reels. You use half of the wager for the paylines, the other half for the ways to win, and you choose if you want both or only the regular lines.

The Red Mansion symbol is a wild that works on both types of systems. It’s reserved for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th columns. It doesn’t form combinations of its own, since it doesn’t appear everywhere.

Free Games Feature

The third column is the lucky one when it comes to the free spins. You need a minimum of two Bonus symbols to be present on that particular column, and if that happens you get free spins. 10 games are offered when you have two bonus symbols, 15 when you have three and 20 spins when all four positions on the column are occupied by the same bonus icon.

Betting options and jackpots

You use 40 coins to cover the 40 lines, and an additional 40 coins if you want the ways to win active as well, for a total of 80 coins. The smallest coin value is $1, so the minimum wager is $80 if you want every possible chance of getting paid. It can get even more expensive though, since the coins go up to $30. The maximum wager possible here is $2,400.

The best possible payouts come from the 40 paylines, which have their own paytable. They offer up to 5,000x, so $150,000. The ways to win only give you 500x, or $15,000.

Design and symbols

It’s a gorgeous game and I think that IGT did a very good job with it. It’s a modern design, with generous features and it should be a very fun game to play. It looks like it’s telling you a story, with the characters being part of the Chinese nobility or the Imperial family. Everything about it looks glamorous and that’s something you don’t get to say about Asian themed slots very often.

Is It Worth Playing?

I’ve loved both the features and the design aspect, plus the top prizes are high, just as they should be since it’s a very expensive slot to play. If you can afford to play it with both lines and ways to win active, give it a shot.

The Red Mansion slot machine is offered through the IGT platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
