Big Red Slots

Big-RedBig Red, an Aristocrat slot machine, was inspired by the Australian outback and the animals that inhabit it, especially the kangaroo. Big Red is the main character and it’s a really big kangaroo, seen in the middle of the Australian desert in this case. Australia has had plenty of slot machines themed around it in the past, and they rarely look great, but Big Red would be an exception. The game focuses not only on Big Red, the kangaroo, but also on the other animals that inhabit this desert.

The disappointing thing about Big Red is that it has only 5 bet lines, which is very low for a 5 reel slot machine. The features are the normal ones, meaning that they offer you free games, scatter symbols and wilds. As for the big prizes, you are offered $1,250.

Features of Big Red

There are wilds, scatter symbols and features with free spins in Big Red, and while they aren’t special in any way, they are all great to have in a slot machine and expected in a modern title.

The Kangaroo is the one that serves as a wild in Big Red. It’s a symbol which can substitute for regular symbols, not for scatters. If they land in exactly the right place on a payline, where another icon would be needed, the wild will take that role and the combo will be formed. That’s one extra win for you, which wouldn’t have been possible without the wild. What’s interesting is that the wild is also the one responsible for triggering free spins, but more on that below.

The Lone Tree is the scatter of the game, but it will not be responsible for starting up a feature. It will only award a prize, based on the total number of symbols of this type that are present on the reels. Between three and five of these icons, in scattered positions, will give you a prize of up to 50x the bet.

Free Games Feature

The free spins are easy enough to trigger, but the method is quite unusual and I haven’t seen it used before. Whenever a wild symbol manages to help out by being part of a new combo, you get 5 free spins as a reward. As an example, if wilds are part of three paylines, then you get 5 spins for free in each case. Retriggering free spins is easy enough if you get the wild to substitute again for a regular icon.

Betting options and jackpots

The game has only 5 lines that you can bet on, and they’re easy to cover. You simply use one of the five yellow buttons from the betting area, and you will have 1 to 5 lines active. The line bet can be increased with the Bet One and Bet Max buttons. The maximum line bet is $1, while the minimum if $0.01. As for the largest wager, it’s $5.

You can take home a top prize of $1,250, which is offered by a combo of five Crocodiles.

Design and symbols

The theme being the Australian outback, you will see the desert in the background image. The entire design is heavy on the red, the graphics making it look almost like the action takes place on planet Mars. The reels are red also, with symbols appearing on them being a collection of boring playing cards and various animals that would be found in the outback. The cards are the only ones ruining the graphics, otherwise this being a decent title.

Symbols: Kangaroo (wild), Tree (scatter, 50x bet), Crocodile (1,250x), Wild Boar (1,000x), Eagle (600x), Dingo (400x), King (300x), Queen (300x), Jack (250x), 10 (150x) and 9 (150x).

Is It Worth Playing?

You’re not going to get a lot of chances to win prizes in it, not with only 5 lines to host the combinations. That, plus the top prizes are rather low. However, if you’re a fan of Australia, it’s not a game that you should ignore, on the contrary.

Big Red can be found at any Aristocrat casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
