Sun & Moon Slots

Sun-and-MoonDesigned by Aristocrat, Sun & Moon is a slot machine with modern features, but with a design which seems dated. The theme is inspired by the Sun and the Moon, but also by the Mayan culture. The Mayan calendar is well known, especially since people thought that its end a few years ago would bring in the end of the world. The Mayan inspiration is not original, South American civilizations being part of plenty of slot machines.

With top payouts of $2,500, the game might not give you a big reason to play it, but it does have some interesting scatter/wild symbols which have both roles, plus you get free spins and some multipliers. The game has 20 lines on 5 reels.

Features of Sun & Moon

The two main symbols of the game act as both scatters and wilds, and they are both responsible for the start of the free spins round and for its multipliers.

As I’ve said, the feature symbols have two roles. One is represented by the Golden Sun, the other has the Silver Moon on it. They can offer prizes by appearing as scatters, in which case they give you up to 50x the bet for 3 to 5 symbols, either of the same kind or mixed, but needed from the leftmost reel to the right. The other way to get prizes from them is to land two to five matching or mixed symbols on the same line, in which case you get paid up to 1,000x the line bet.

The Pyramid is another interesting symbol which can make an appearance, though only on the 2nd reel. Whenever it appears there, the Pyramid will change into another symbol.

Free Games Feature

Free spins are available in this game, and luckily you can get them even by mixing Sun and Moon symbols. You need only two scatters to be present in order to get this feature to start, but you only get 5 free spins if you have only the minimum number. Get more scatters, up to 5 of them, and you can win up to 50 free spins.

The prizes are all doubled while the free spins are running, 2x multipliers being applied on the wins. You can retrigger free spins, with another 2+ scatters.

Betting options and jackpots

You will see the betting options at the bottom of the screen. The Lines and the Bet Per Line options are the ones that you work with. The line bet uses a single coin and is valued between $0.01 and $2.50. This allows for a maximum bet of $50 to be made each round.

The prizes are rather low, up to 1,000 coins being won from a single combo, but there are two different symbols which can give you this amount, one with the Gold Sun, the other with the Silver Moon.

Design and symbols

I’m not a fan of the design of Sun & Moon, especially since so many other slot machines have a similar theme and do a better job covering the Mayans. A Mayan motif is used behind the betting options, while at the top you can see the mountains, a temple and the stars at night. The reels look like they’re made out of wood and they have on them poker cards and Mayan idols and jewelry as symbols.

Sun-and-Moon-paytable

Symbols: Gold Sun (wild, 1,000 coins), Silver Moon (wild, 1,000 coins), Mixed Sun and Moon (500 coins), Scattered Sun and Moon (50x the bet, scatters), Pyramid (bonus), Mayan Idol (300 coins), Snake Bracelet (200 coins), Medal (200 coins), Gold Jewel (150 coins), Ace (120 coins), King (120 coins), Queen (120 coins), Jack (100 coins), 10 (100 coins) and 9 (100 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s an interesting take on the Mayan civilization, especially since it’s mostly focused on the Sun and the Moon. The use of the two scatter/wild symbols is also a good reason to try the game.

Sun & Moon can be found at any Aristocrat casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
