Congo Bongo Slots

Congo-BongoCongo Bongo is about a Jamaican that’s playing the bongos, a musical instrument you will often see in the Caribbean. It’s a music themed slot for the most part, with various instruments used that might not have a place in an orchestra, but will work out great if you want to listen to some traditional music from Jamaica. The national colors of Jamaica are also quite easily visible everywhere, with red, yellow and green being used in a few places. It doesn’t look like a recent addition to Cryptologic’s line-up, but it’s not unpleasant despite its age.

Playing Congo Bongo, you will find that you have 5 reels inside, with 20 lines that you can activate for each spin. Cryptologic was generous with the prizes and features, accompanying the $30,000 jackpot with wild symbols, free spins, multipliers and scatters.

Features of Congo Bongo

Congo Bongo will give you enough reasons to smile, which will be due to the two special symbols that can appear and the effect they have on the gameplay.

The first one would be the wild, with Juba the bongo player shown on it. He’s a cool looking dude, with a big hat and sunglasses, a musician that plays the bongos. In this case, as in every other situation when it is present, the wild can substitute for other symbols. This ability comes in handy whenever there are a few matching icons on the same line as a wild, in which case the wild also takes up their role and a combination gets formed. The jackpot gets awarded with the wild’s help, with five Jubas on a payline being needed for the 6,000 coins to be won.

The Toucan bird is the other major symbol, and it looks a bit different than normal, with its beak being colored in yellow and red stripes. It awards prizes of up to 100x the triggering bet, as long as you have between 2 and 5 Toucans anywhere on the reels. If you have a minimum of 3 Toucans, you will discover that besides a decent prize you also win a free game feature.

Free Games Feature

The presence of 3+ Toucans scattered around the reels is sufficient to get a free games feature triggered, where you win 20 free spins. Each free spin applies a 2x multiplier to whatever wins it has, so all prizes are doubled as a result. You can retrigger the free spins, as long as you get the same 3+ Toucan birds.

Betting options and jackpots

With coins varying between $0.01 and $5, you can end up with a $100 wager per spin, or you can use considerably less to trigger the game. Up to 20 coins can be used, but if you decide to use fewer than the maximum amount you will not have all the paylines active.

The prize offered is valuable enough, with a 6,000 coins reward turning into a cash value of up to $30,000. That’s only if you use the $5 coin though, as lower denominations will result in smaller prizes as well.

Design and symbols

This is a Jamaican themed slot machine, and as such you will find on its reels the three colors that make up their flag, meaning green, yellow and red. You get some of these colors on the reels as well, along with objects that a Jamaican party might have around, mostly musical instruments. The game doesn’t provide you with a great design, but it’s at least enjoyable.

Symbols: Juba (wild, 6,000x), Toucan (scatter, 100x triggering bet), Bongo Drums (2,000x), Drum (1,000), Red Instrument (500x), Tangerine (500x), Ace (200x), King (200x), Queen (125x), Jack (125x), Ten (100x) and Nine (100x).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s an interesting game, with a theme that you don’t see that often, with decent prizes and a collection of features that should prove quite fun. It’s always nice to see a complete line-up of features, even if there is nothing new added to the mix.

Congo Bongo can be found at any Cryptologic casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
