Dad’s Day isn’t going so well, and you can find out all about it by looking at what’s going on in the symbols of this slot machine. It was created by Cryptologic and it has a 50’s look to it, a time when dads were rarely involved in the day to day work around the house, a job usually reserved to women. Well, dad is alone today and he has to do everything on his own, while taking care of a small baby. It doesn’t go that well for dad, and the house is a mess as a result. It’s a lot of fun, and I love the retro look of the images that were used.
Dad’s Day is a slot machine from Cryptologic, a title with 5 reels/30 bet lines. A range of decent features (including scatters, free spins and wilds) that are provided will insure you have a great time, but best of all you can win a prize that is worth as much as $120,000 by playing it.
Features of Dad’s Day
Besides being a decent looking game, Dad’s Day has a gameplay that is improved by the presence of multiple modern features, like a wild symbol, a scatter or a round of free spins.
The Dad wild is the most disappointing feature here. Not only he doesn’t do a very good job at taking care of the house, but he is also limited to three reels out of five (2, 3 and 4). He doesn’t offer any prizes and no multipliers either. It’s nowhere near as useful in this game as it is in other slots from Cryptologic.
The Crying Baby is another feature symbol, and it’s a lot more fun to get than the Dad wild. It has the scatter ability, which allows it to appear in any position in the game and as long as the minimum number of babies are present, you get a cash prize and a bonus game with free spins. The prizes are available when you have a minimum of two scatters, while the bonus game requires three or more.
Baby Feature
The Baby’s presence in at least three positions on the reels signals the start of the bonus game. In it, you get to roll a dice three times, with the Baby moving around the board each time and getting you a prize.
You can get either cash prizes or free spins. If you get free spins, you also have a 3x multiplier applied to their wins. Unfortunately, the free spins can’t be retriggered.
Betting options and jackpots
With bets of up to $600, Dad’s Day is not a cheap slot to play, but you can make it that way, as long as you’re willing to win smaller prizes. Instead of using 30 coins of $20 each, which would be the maximum allowed, you can use fewer coins if you’re OK with fewer active paylines, or you can reduce their denomination to as little as $0.01.
While you might be required to use bets that are on the high side, the game does offer a lot in return, at least if you’re lucky enough to get the 5 required symbols on one of the paylines. A 6,000 coins prize awaits you in that case, or up to $120,000.
Design and symbols
A day when dad is in charge of the kids can often end up in disaster, especially if he has no idea what’s involved. The game’s action takes place in a time when dads were the ones working, while women were mostly homemakers, so men were even more inexperienced at this sort of thing. Based on the design style and the objects that appear on the reels, the time seems to be sometime in the 50’s or 60’s. The drawing style is very attractive, at least if you enjoy this kind of retro look, and I for one do like it.
Symbols: Dad (wild), Baby (scatter, 100x the bet), Mom (6,000x), Dog (2,000x), Washing Machine (400x), Vacuum Machine (400x), Pot (200x), Telephone (200x), Teddy Bear (150x), Rubber Duck (150x), Milk (100x) and Pacifier (100x).
Is It Worth Playing?
The retro design, the huge prizes and the free spins with 3x multipliers are all advantages that this slot has. The fact that it has few features inside would be a downside, but not a huge one.
Dad’s Day can be found at any Cryptologic casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
