Forrest Gump Slots

Forrest-GumpA title like Forrest Gump doesn’t need much of an introduction, except to say that you’re getting the slot machine here, not the movie with the same name. The movie was the inspiration for it though, so you’re going to find inside, in cartoon form, some of the major names from the movie, like Forrest, Jenny or Lieutenant Dan. The movie was released in 1994, so it’s got quite a bit of history behind it already, but it’s still one of the better known titles to be released in the 90’s.

A 5 reel game with up to 25 bet lines selectable inside, Forrest Gump is a design created by Cryptologic, with a range of decent features provided in it. Among them, you will appreciate finding scatter symbols, wilds and multipliers, but the $100,000 jackpot can’t hurt either. The Hollywood progressive jackpots are included also, a set of three prizes that are randomly offered to players.

Features of Forrest Gump

You’re getting a pretty average number of features here, and their quality would be in the mid range as well. The scatter and the wild symbol aren’t missing, and the multipliers and bonus games are also included.

Forrest, filmed from behind while sitting on the bench, is the one you get to see on the wild symbol. Reserved for reels 2, 3 and 4, the Forrest wild is capable of substituting for other regular symbols, and as usual the one exception is the scattered Chocolate. You don’t get prizes from multiple wilds, since there are only three of them and they can’t form a full combo.

The Box of Chocolates, coming from the saying “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get”, a favorite saying of his mother, acts as the scatter symbol. The scatter’s ability allows it to trigger cash prizes, whenever multiple chocolate boxes are on the reels in random positions. Its payouts go as high as 200x the triggering wager.

Box of Chocolates Feature

The scatter symbol is one of the two triggers for bonus games. With 3+ boxes of chocolates, you can expect the bonus game with the same name to start up. The screen changes to a grid with 9 chocolate boxes on it. You first have five chocolate drops coming in, after which you can get more by clicking on the boxes. If you get matching chocolates, you win prizes, as shown on the screen. After the chocolates that match are found, there are more that drop into position.

Run Forrest, Run

Named after something that Jenny used to say to Forrest when bullies were going after him, this feature requires a regular symbol to trigger it. Since it’s not a scatter, all the Footballs need to appear on the same line and forming a combo of 3 to 5 symbols.

Once the bonus game starts, you have to click on Run, to get Forrest going on the football field. Dodging opponents is done by moving him either to the right or the left. After each 10 yard line you pass, without getting tackled, you win a prize. An extra bonus is offered if a touchdown is scored.

Betting options and jackpots

A game with 25 bet lines will usually ask for one coin per active line, and this one is no exception. The use of 25 coins is necessary if you want to get all the lines active, but at least there is no option to use multiple coins for each one. The second thing you need to decide on is the denomination of the coin you’re going to use. It starts at just $0.01, but it goes up to $20 if you click on it enough times. 25 coins at $20 each brings you a $500 wager for a single spin.

Your best hope would be getting either five scatter symbols in random positions, or Forrest Gump himself on the same payline in all five spots. Either way, with the maximum bet, the prize offered by them will be worth $100,000 (200x the bet for the scatter, or 5,000 coins for the regular top symbol). There is a considerable difference between what you can get from the main symbol and the next one (which gives you only 10% of the jackpot).

Another hope would be getting one of the progressive jackpots. Part of the Hollywood Jackpots, they are called Classic, Epic and Blockbuster, going from lowest to highest paying. These are randomly awarded, at the end of a spin, without mattering what you have on the reels.

Design and symbols

Forrest Gump, the slot, is a cartoon version of the movie, so you’re going to find inside three of the main characters, plus a range of objects that are used and seen in the movie as it progresses. It’s attractive enough, with better looking versions of the actors, with the house that Forrest lived in and with the iconic bus stop bench visible behind the reels, but only when you’re in paytable mode.

Symbols: Forrest on Bench (wild), Box of Chocolates (scatter, 200x triggering bet), Forrest Gump close-up (5,000x), Jenny (500x), Lieutenant Dan (200x), Peace Sign (150x), Football (bonus, 150x), Soldier Helmet (125x), Ping Pong Paddles (125x) and Bubba Hat (100x).

Is It Worth Playing?

There aren’t that many movie themed slots that will get me excited, but Forrest Gump is one of them. It was such an important movie in the 90’s, and it has two different bonus games that are well realized and themed around events or sayings from the movie, that I can’t help but enjoy it.

Forrest Gump, The Movie

Launched in 1994, Forrest Gump was a movie that was based on a novel written by Winston Groom, with the same name. Tom Hanks was the start of the show, with other names on the actor list being Robin Wright, Sally Field, Mykelti Williamson and Gary Sinise. The director was Robert Zemeckis.

The movie starts with the birth of Forrest Gump, and it goes on to show us what a special life he had, the period depicted being from 1944 to 1982. He might’ve been slow-witted, but he was also a good guy and a great athlete, as shown in the movie.

As of this moment, IMDB lists it as the 13th best movie ever, according to its rating. Since released, it earned more than $677 million for the studio that made it, and for the 90’s that was a great success.

This Forrest Gump slot is offered by all online casinos with Cryptologic software, playable either in practice or in real money mode.
