Highlander Slots

HighlanderHighlander is a game which is offered by IGT and which takes the famous movie with the same name as inspiration. It’s the one released in 1986, which had Christopher Lambert in the main role, though names like Sean Connery, Roxanne Hart or Clancy Brown should also be familiar to you. The action revolves around immortality, and around the warriors which fight to become stronger by killing the others that have the same powers as them.

This game offers its players a total of 20 bet lines, the reels that support them being 5 total. There are various bonus games inside, about three types of scatter symbols, free spins and even a wild. The big prize of the slot is worth $2,500 at best.

Features of Highlander

A number of cool features were introduced in Highlander, among them being its stacked icons, the wilds and the super wilds, scatters, free spins and the two bonus games.

Wild symbols are recognized by the image they have on them, with a Deer shown in each one. These are symbols which are reserved for the last four reels (2 to 5). When they appear there, they can help out by substituting for symbols needed on the same payline. The rest of the symbols for the combo need to be in place as well, so that the wild will only provide the missing ingredient. Wilds can’t replace scatter symbols, but that’s the usual way they work.

A total of three scatters are present in the game, one triggering the free spins, the other two bringing you bonus games.

Free Games Feature

To get in the free spins, you will need at least three symbols with scatter abilities that have the Eye on them. You get 10 free spins, plus a small prize, worth the same as the round’s wager.

Super Wilds are part of the free spins feature, showing up on the same four reels as the regular wilds. These wilds are added to the reels, and when they make an appearance they stay in that position for multiple rounds, helping you to get more money.

Sword Skill

This bonus game needs you to land 3+ scattered Sword symbols at the same time. You pick one of the tiles with the Tartan pattern on them, and you are offered a prize immediately.

Highlander Battle

The image of MacLeod himself was chosen for the third scatter, the one that triggers the most interesting of the two bonus games. Inside, should you get at least three such scattered icons, you will find a bonus game which puts MacLeod against Kurgan. Huge payouts can be won, if you manage to get to the maximum level.

You have to attack the enemy, getting to the next prize tier when you are successful, and also getting prizes at each step. Miss three times, and the bonus game ends. You can get successful hits a total of 15 times.

Betting options and jackpots

On each line that you activate, you decide what the stake will be, the minimum being $0.01, while the maximum is $10. You can spend up to $200 on each round of the game, if all the lines were used.

The payouts seem to be somewhat disappointing, 250 coins being awarded by the best combo, the value for them being $2,500. The really big prizes can come through the Highlander Battle feature, though you need to be very lucky to get to those prize tiers.

Design and symbols

The 1986 film is at the basis of the design, using a lot of images of the actors that played in it. The vast majority of the symbols are actually with them, so there are a lot of photos being used, and less computer designed images. Even the background shows you the two main protagonists of the final battle, MacLeod and Kurgan. It’s not a game to be impressed with unfortunately, but the movie fans will definitely recognize its characters.

Symbols: Deer (wild), MacLeod (scatter), Green Eye (scatter), Swords (scatter), The Prize Logo (250 coins), The Gathering (150 coins), The Ground (100 coins), Swordplay (50 coins), Immortals (25 coins), Ace (20 coins), King (15 coins), Queen (10 coins) and Jack (5 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s worth playing if the movie was a favorite of yours, and you want to relive the experience. It’s designed to appeal to the fans of Highlander, and it even has a good feature that is themed around it.

Highlander, the 1986 Film

Released in 1986, Highlander was a mixed production, American and British. The director for it was Russell Mulcahy, while the story on which it was based was written by Gregory Widen. The action in the movie was based on the battle that immortal beings fought, in their attempt to get as much power as possible. Killing another immortal imbued the killer with the victim’s power. TV series were also created, as did other movies with the same hero at the center. The star of the movie is Christopher Lambert, which was made famous by it.

The Highlander slot machine is offered through the IGT platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
