Avalon Slots

AvalonAvalon is one of two games from Microgaming with this name, the first in the series actually. The name is connected with the legends of Camelot and King Arthur, being the name of an island which is mentioned as being the place where Excalibur, the famous sword buried in stone, was created. Avalon was also the place where Arthur went to while recovering from wounds sustained after Battle of Camlann. Morgan le Fay is another character that has a connection with Avalon in the legends. If all this sounds like a great premise for a slot machine, that’s because it is.

Avalon is the more regular out of the two games with this title, using 5 reels & 20 win lines. The features aren’t bad, with multipliers of up to 7x, free spins, scatters and wilds part of the list, but the second title does it even better. Its jackpot is worth up to $15,000.

Features of Avalon

Avalon insured that it would be a lot of fun by taking care of the features as well, not just of the background story. It uses wild symbols and scatters, along with free spins and large multipliers.

Avalon itself is represented in the image that was chosen to be the wild in the game. You will be able to take advantage of this feature whenever it happens to appear on a payline where other matching symbols are present, so that the wild can be just the missing ingredient in a new combination. The only symbol it can’t replace is the one that is not regular, meaning the scatter. On its own, the wild is going to create its own combinations, with two to five Avalon images being enough to give you a prize, even the top jackpot when all of them are present.

Lady of the Lake is another important part in the legends of King Arthur, and it’s the image that is shown in the scatter symbol in this game. As a scatter, you can count on it doing two things. First of all, you’re going to get paid really well when up to five of them are in random locations, the maximum amount being the equivalent of 200 total bets. Second, you’re going to get free spins.

Free Games Feature

The free spins will give you 12 rounds where you don’t have to pay, and where the original bet from the triggering round will be used to determine prizes. Multipliers of up to 7x are also offered for the duration of these rounds.

Besides the original wild symbol, the one with Avalon, a second wild is provided for the duration of the free spins. It shows a gorgeous Treasure Chest, and it only appears during the free games. It also has its own prizes, besides acting as a second wild.

Betting options and jackpots

The slot’s wagers cover a maximum of 20 lines, and the player is free to pick between 1 and 10 coins for each line that is activated. Another option is to change the denomination of those coins, the range here being $0.01 to $0.50. There are line bets of up to $5 and total bets of up to $100.

Avalon, the wild symbol, will give you 3,000 times the line bet, or up to $15,000 (30,000 coins). The scatter symbol’s payout goes up to $20,000.

Design and symbols

The themed symbols show you what the game could’ve been like, if the designers paid a bit more attention to it. The Treasure Chest, the Lady of Lake or Avalon are a couple of great examples of graphics that you will enjoy, but the actual game area is far from that level. You get simple blue backgrounds for the reels, plus half of the positions will be taken by playing cards that are simple stock photos that keep getting used in many slot machines.

Symbols: Avalon (wild, 3,000x), Chest (1,000x), Lady of the Lake (200x bet, scatter), Crown (800x), Coat of Arms (600x), Broach (500x), Goblet (400x), Ace (150x), King (100x), Queen (75x), Jack (50x) and 10 (50x).

Is It Worth Playing?

If you had to choose between the two Avalon slots, I’d go with the second title, not this one. However, this is a good slot machine, and it deserves its own chance.

This Avalon slot is offered by all online casinos with Microgaming software, playable either in practice or in real money mode.
