Munchkins is a slot themed around some kind of weird little creatures, which tend to take bites out of everything that is in their path, trying out things like wallets or key chains just to see if they’re any good. Once the night comes, you can expect these little critters to come out and start doing some real damage around the house. It is a Microgaming slot machine, one that you will probably enjoy playing, mostly because of the new theme.
While the 5 reels and the 15 win lines make up for a rather bland choice, the top payout of $75,000 makes this slot a lot more appealing. There are free spins, multipliers, a scatter and a wild in the feature section, which add to the list of advantages.
Features of Munchkins
The slot has everything you could want, from the wild symbol, to scatters, free spins and multipliers. It might not have a bonus game to offer you, but the top jackpot is quite generous and makes up for a lot of things.
First, the wild symbol and its very big top prize. As it often happens, the wild symbol can create its own combinations in this slot, of up to five symbols lined up on the same active line. If that happens, you get a top prize worth 15,000 times the line wager of that round. The rest of the time, when it doesn’t create its own combo, the wild helps you out by substituting for other symbols and creating other combinations this way.
Next, we have the Cookie scatter, a symbol which will give away prizes of up to 60x the total bet when up to five of them are present in the game. The scatter ability means that the symbols don’t have to be on pre-arranged lines, they simply need to be scattered around.
Free Games Feature
With 3, 4 or 5 scattered Cookies, you get the free spins feature started, and that’s on top of the prizes that I mentioned above. A total of 20 free spins are offered by this feature, the prizes doubling for their duration (2x multiplier). You can also retrigger these free spins, something that I’m always glad to have as an option.
Betting options and jackpots
The betting system allows you to decide how many coins and lines should be used, as well as the denomination of the coins ($0.01 to $0.50). A maximum of 10 coins can be wagered per line, meaning that you can spend up to $5 for each one. The total bet reaches $75 (150 coins).
The game is very generous with its top jackpot, offering one of the best returns on a line bet investment. You get 15,000x the line wager back, which in this case means a jackpot of up to $75,000.
Design and symbols
While the munchkins are not shown by the game, you do see the signs of their passage everywhere. All the regular symbols of the game are bitten, with chunks missing from them. Even the playing cards have endured this treatment, though they’re stock photos in every other way and it doesn’t seem to be enough to make them look themed. A few bitten objects are not enough to make for a great slot machine though, so I’m not impressed with it.
Symbols: Blue Dome (wild, 15,000x), Cookie (scatter, 60x wager), Home Work (500x), Wallet (400x), Keys (200x), Ace (100x), King (90x), Queen (80x), Jack (60x) and 10 (50x).
Is It Worth Playing?
The big prize and the features look pretty good, but the design is far from impressive. If you don’t care about the visuals as much, you can give it a shot, it offers very good top payouts.
The Munchkins slot machine is offered through the Microgaming platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
