Retro Reels Slots

Retro-ReelsRetro Reels is a classic game in a modern package, meaning that it has the right number of reels and lines to be a modern slot machine, but its theme and symbol design will remind you of old fruit slots that pubs used to have back in the day. It’s a slot with a bit of a vintage look, which I believe works for it, and I for one haven’t found it unpleasant or boring. A big reason why that is the case would be the presence of certain features inside, including one that you rarely see, which allows you to Respin reels.

You get a total of 20 paylines from Retro Reels, with the usual 5 reels hosting them. The Respin feature is my favorite, while the rest include a scatter symbol, free spins and multipliers. Top payouts of up to $10,000 are on the line.

Features of Retro Reels

The Respin feature is by far the best option available to you in this game, or at least the one that will have the biggest impact on the gameplay. You also get scatter symbols which will bring you free games and 2x multipliers.

The game has a single scatter symbol, and it is the one that both triggers the round with free spins and some cash prizes. The payouts vary between 2x and 100x the triggering wager, and they’re offered for two to five bonus symbols scattered on the reels. The Logo on it reads “5 Free Spins Bonus”.

Free Games Feature

The number of scatter symbols present on the screen doesn’t just give you the amount you win, but also triggers a certain quantity of free spins. The minimum of two scatters will only bring you 10 spins for free, but you get an additional 5 free spins for each extra scatter. The most you can get is 25 free spins, when five scattered symbols are present.

The prizes obtained during these free games all have 2x multipliers influencing them, so they’re worth twice as much. Retriggering the free spins is also a possibility, with as little as two scatter symbols.

Respin Reels

If you look at the reels, you will notice that each one has a Respin button underneath, plus a number. If you agree to pay the amount displayed there, the game will respin the reel that you choose, giving you an extra chance to form a paying combo, or to improve an existing one.

One example would be a combo of three Lemons that I got. I hit Respin on the fourth reel and I got a Lemon there as well, so now I had a four Lemon combo. Next, I hit Respin on the 5th reel, and I got the fifth Lemon in the combo. Each time I got lucky, the amount I paid to Respin was much smaller than the profit brought on by the improved combo.

Keep in mind though, the game has 20 lines, but that doesn’t mean that you automatically have an improved combo if the symbol you need appears on the reel. It could very well appear in a spot which is not part of the combo you’re trying to improve.

Betting options and jackpots

The coins you use here have small denominations, starting at $0.01 and going only up to $0.05. You can use up to 20 per line though, allowing the line bet to go to $1. Since 20 lines are in use, you can wager up to $20 per round.

You are going to win up to $10,000 cash from the game, coming from as many as 200,000 coins.

Design and symbols

The game pretty much looks like you would imagine a classic slot would, if it got a modern layout. It’s made out of brushed metal or aluminum, with a silvery look to it. It has classic symbols only, with fruit, bar icons, sevens and dollar signs, plus some very impressive features that most modern games don’t have.

Symbols: 5 Free Spins Logo (scatter, 100x triggering wager), Dollar Sign (10,000x), Red Seven (500x), Blue 7 (500x), Gray 7 (250x), Red Three Bar (250x), Orange Two Bar (250x), Yellow One Bar (250x), Cherry (250x), Lemon (250x), Plum (200x), Mixed 7s (100x) and Mixed Bars (75x).

Is It Worth Playing?

All the Retro Reels games have the Respin feature which I love, so I’d say give them a chance. This is the most classic of the three slots, with the smallest number of paylines and the smallest prizes. I’d say try it out, but I’d recommend one of the other two.

You will find Retro Reels at any online casino which chooses to use software from Microgaming, playable either for free or for real money.
