The Argyle Open Slots

The-Argyle-OpenThe Argyle Open is a golf themed game, not the only one to come with this theme, but one of the better titles in my opinion. The creator of this particular slot is Microgaming, and while they did a decent job with the game overall, I’m not 100% happy with the design style they picked for it. It’s something that I’ve seen in most golf themed titles, where the designers don’t seem to get it exactly right. Still, you can see that they’ve put effort into it, and that the details are there, so you’re not going to regret playing it.

You’re getting a serious number of chances to get a win each round while you play this game, as it has 40 paylines that can be active on the 5 reels. The game uses a bonus game which is golf themed, a scatter symbol, wilds, free spins and up to 5x multipliers. The prizes are not that great though, giving you up to $500.

Features of The Argyle Open

There are wild features offered in The Argyle Open, along with scatters, a bonus game, free spins and multipliers.

The wild symbol is important because it offers the top jackpot as well, so it doesn’t just help you create other low paying combinations. It can be a superior combo itself, though you have to first land a couple of them on the same line and in the right order from left to right. Often enough it will be a source of prizes by being part of other combinations, with regular symbols only, as the scatter can’t be substituted for.

The other symbol is the one with the golf ball in it. It’s the scatter symbol, so that means access to prizes which only ask you to have that particular symbol on the reels, in at least two positions, no matter where they are located. The smallest prize might be only worth double the triggering bet, but with five scatters you get a prize worth 100x.

The Tournament Bonus

The same scatter symbol will reward you with access to The Tournament Bonus when you have at least three on the reels. There are three stages in this competition, and you have to complete the holes in each one.

You start off by choosing a golfer to represent you. The first two stages ask you to hit the ball as far as possible, getting a cash prize in each case. The third stage is different, asking you to get the ball as close to the hole as possible, and in exchange you earn free spins, between 10 and 20 depending on your performance. Multipliers of up to 5x are offered for these free spins.

Betting options and jackpots

Since the game has 40 lines, the game allows you to select them all with 40 coins. You can use more than 1 coin per line if you want to though, up to 10 being selectable. The total reaches 400 coins, but the maximum wager is not as impressive, as the denomination of a coin only goes from $0.01 to $0.05. That’s a $20 maximum bet.

If you get the 10,000 coins of the top jackpot (1,000x) you can win $500 from this slot.

Design and symbols

The action in The Argyle Open takes place on the golf course, a natural choice in this case. The reels take most of the screen though, with symbols being a mix of golf related images, nothing out of the ordinary or out of place here. I’m not a fan of the design style used to show off the golfers, making them look like oil paintings almost, without enough details to their faces, but I can’t deny that it’s a good quality to it.

Symbols: The Logo (wild, 1,000x), Golf Ball (100x the bet, scatter), Champion (500x), Red Player (300x), Pink Player (200x), Teal Player (150x), Blue Player (100x), Player’s Pants (60x), Setting the ball (50x), Feet (40x), Clubs (30x) and Flag (25x).

Is It Worth Playing?

Golf fans are clearly the ones that are targeted by this slot machine, which does a decent job at giving them an experience they would want. I’m personally not a fan of the design, but it’s still a perfectly OK game for someone that loves the sport.

The Argyle Open can be found at any Microgaming casino, where you get a chance to play it for real money or in free mode.
