Tomb Raider Slots

Tomb-RaiderTomb Raider, the slot machine, was created by Microgaming. The theme is obviously inspired by the video game with the same name, which become so popular as a result of its main character’s physical attributes, that it had movies, novels, comic books and theme park rides built around her. The character is an archaeologist, called Lara Croft. The slot machine is yet another medium in which you can play a game built around her.

5 reels with 15 paylines are used in Tomb Raider, a game that doesn’t need much of an explanation about its topic. The game has free games, a bonus feature, multipliers, scatters and wilds, so the full collection is present. There is also a $18,750 top jackpot.

Features of Tomb Raider

The features mentioned in Tomb Raider aren’t special, they’ve been used in plenty of slots before, but they’re still fun and it’s great that they’re all available in one place. The wild symbol is one example, the bonus game is another, while the scatter is responsible for free spins and 3x multipliers.

You get the Tomb Raider Logo when it comes to the wild, a symbol which is used on all the reels and which can both contribute to regular symbol combos and create its own. The substitution ability is the usual one, used on all regular icons, while the bonus/scatter symbols are excluded. The wild forms its own combinations when two to five Logos are on the same line, arranged from left to right. Payouts will reach a top value of 7,500x in that case.

You will see Lara Croft in a close-up when the scatter symbol makes appearances on the reels. With 2+ symbols you can get paid by it, even if the symbols are not arranged in a regular combo. Prizes start at 2x the bet and reach a very healthy 400x the triggering bet.

Free Games Feature

The slot’s free spins come when 3 to 5 scattered Lara symbols are on the reels. You are awarded 10 free spins and all the wins are tripled while they’re used. You can also retrigger the free spins, the requirements being the same ones.

Tomb Bonus Game

The game has a bonus game as well, which is started with the help of the Idol symbols. These icons have to form a combo on an active line, with 3 to 5 symbols in it. The number of symbols matters here, as it will give you a higher win potential, with more picks.

The next screen loads up a temple with 12 idols inside. You pick 3 to 5 idols (for 3 to 5 triggering symbols) and you get paid between 12x and 500x by each one. The most you can take home is 2,500x the line bet.

Betting options and jackpots

The line wagers use between 1 and 5 coins, while their denominations start at $0.05 and go up to $0.50. You can have line bets of $2.50, while the total per round doesn’t go higher than $37.50.

The 7,500x top prize that is advertised is decent enough for a slot machine, though plenty of titles have offered even double that multiplier. In this game that’s up to 37,500 coins, or $18,750.

Design and symbols

This is the first of the Tomb Raider slot machines, and it’s clearly a bit on the old side. While you do have Lara on a couple of symbols, they look like they were taken from some older video games with her, not from the much more detailed recent ones. There is also the matter of the playing cards, which seem to have a 3D quality to them which doesn’t help them look better. The rest of the symbols look at least decent, despite the age of the game, which shows quite clearly.

Symbols: Idol (bonus), Lara Croft Close-up (400x the bet, scatter), Tomb Raider Logo (7,500x, wild), Temple Plans (500x), Lara Croft (500x), Tiger (250x), Ace (125x), King (100x), Queen (100x), Jack (75x) and 10 (75x).

Is It Worth Playing?

While the design is not something that I’m a big fan of, the features look quite good and the top prize is at least decent. Given that this is a Lara Croft game, it’s hard to argue with anyone’s wish to give it a shot.

Tomb Raider, the Origins

The Tomb Raider series began with games, a total of 11 video games being released by two different producers (Core Design and Crystal Dynamics). The hero here is Lara Croft, a female archaeologist that is attractive and armed, a deadly combination that brought her a lot of fans. In time, additional mediums were reached by the franchise, with novels, comic books, movies and even slots being developed based on her. The first title in the series was released in 1996, so there are a couple of decades of history already behind this popular series.

You will find Tomb Raider at any online casino which chooses to use software from Microgaming, playable either for free or for real money.
