What on Earth Slots

What-on-EarthWhat on Earth should be an interesting slot machine, one of the titles that Microgaming has released. It’s themed around an alien invasion of Earth, with all sorts of dangerous looking aliens being involved in it. The game aims to be funny as well, and I think it succeeds. Favorites of mine would be the fruits that are used as planets or other cosmic bodies. The theme is not a new one, but I guarantee you that you’re not going to find another one quite like What on Earth.

A game which has 5 reels and 9 lines, What on Earth still manages to be fun, offering a wild symbol and multiple scatters which can trigger the same bonus game. Top payouts of $37,500 are on the line inside.

Features of What on Earth

Among the features that What on Earth has you will find a limited wild feature and a couple of scatters which can start off the bonus game for you.

First, let’s take a look at the wild feature, which uses the What on Earth Logo. It’s a much more limited wild than I like to see in these games, being capable of substituting for only two regular symbols, out of the seven used by the game. The two symbols are the highest paying ones, so on one hand you get an extra chance to form the higher paying combos, but on the other hand you don’t get help with the lower paying symbols, which will appear much more often. Combinations formed with the wild’s help should be a pretty rare sight in this game. The wild can still be of use by forming its own combo, paying you for 1 to 5 symbols of this type that are aligned on a payline. Up to 7,500x is offered by the wild directly.

Three types of scatter symbols also exist in the slot, and they can be a trigger for the bonus game, while also giving away their own prizes. The Blue Ship gives you 3x the bet for 3 scatters. The Green UFO does the same thing, 3 scatters being enough to trigger a prize worth 3x the wager. The Red Ship offers payouts of 3x to 100x the bet, for 3 to 5 scatters of this type.

Beam ‘Em Up Bonus

The three scatter symbols can all trigger the same bonus feature, and the requirement is for 3 Green or Blue ships, or 3 to 5 Red Ships to appear at the same time.

The game asks you to beam up as many types of earthlings as possible, in a limited amount of time. You will see the score go up with each new earthling that you beam aboard. The payouts vary between 3x and 200x the line bet, depending on the type of earthling.

If you find the Globe symbol, you are taken to a special area, where you have to find one of the four types of special earthlings, which will pay 400 times the line bet each.

Betting options and jackpots

The bets you place have to cover up to 9 lines, so you should use at least 9 coins if you want the maximum chance to get paid. You can select a maximum of 45 coins if you want to though, with 5 coins being the limit for one line. These coins have denominations which range from $0.01 to $1, making the maximum bet $45.

As for the game’s top rewards, a 7,500x jackpot is a decent prize to take home, meaning up to $37,500.

Design and symbols

The design of What on Earth feels somewhat childish at times, but I’ve had fun playing it. It has simple dark blue reels, with the symbols being types of ships or astral bodies of various kinds. My favorites would be the fruits which are designed to look like planets with satellites, ringed planets, suns or comets.

Symbols: Game Logo (7,500x, wild), Red Ship (100x the bet, scatter), Green UFO (3x the bet, scatter), Blue Ship (3x the bet, scatter), Alien (1,000x), Controls (500x), Green Asteroid (250x), Melon Planet (200x), Plum Ringed Planet (150x), Orange Sun (100x) and Flaming Cherry (50x).

Is It Worth Playing?

I’m not a fan of the 9 line games, not enough chances to win, but the design of What on Earth is a lot of fun and it comes with an interesting bonus game. I’d recommend it to fans of the alien genre.

The What on Earth slot machine is offered through the Microgaming platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
