Duel in the Deep Slots

Duel-in-the-DeepThe entire action in Duel in the Deep revolves around fighting fish, the heroes being a pair of Swordfish and some Sumo Fish. You will find that Nuworks used them as important actors in this game, being wilds with special roles, while the rest of the icons are normal for such a theme, from the shell with a pearl in it, to the treasure chests and the poker icons.

You can cover with your bets up to 25 lines each time you spin the slot’s 5 reels. Among the features I enjoyed seeing the two types of fighting fish wilds, the scatter symbol, the bonus game and the free spins. You can get payouts of up to $5,000 in the base game.

Features of Duel in the Deep

The Fighting Fish Wilds are important features of the game, along with their multipliers, the scatter symbols and the bonus games which can bring you free spins.

Two types of Fighting Fish wilds can be present in the game, but in both cases only the 1st and 5th reels can get them. The Swordfish is the first one I’m going to cover, a wild that can replace any other symbol, with the exception of the scatter and the other wild fish.

The Sumo Fish is the second wild of the game, also present only on the first and the last reel. It will act as substitute for most of the symbols, the Shipwreck scatter and the Swordfish wild not being among them though. This is also the wild that has a multiplier to apply, doubling wins to which it contributed with at least one symbol.

The game has its own scatter symbol, whose only role is to give you a cash prize. You can win from 2x to 200x the wager by having multiple Shipwreck symbols scattered in three to five positions.

Fighting Fish Feature

There are two ways that you can get the Fighting Fish bonus game started. You either get the Swordfish wilds on the 1st and 5th reels at the same time, or you get the two Sumo Fish wilds on the same reels. Getting one Swordfish and one Sumo Fish doesn’t do anything for you unfortunately.

Next, you will pick one of the two fish to be your champion in the fight that comes next. A total of three rounds will be part of the fight.

You start off with 5 free spins and a 2x multiplier. Each round won by your champion will increase the free spins by 5 and will add 1x to the multiplier. With luck on your side, you can get up to 20 free spins total, with multipliers up to 5x.

Retriggering this feature as the free spins are used will give you another 5 free spins.

Win-Win Feature

You can only trigger this feature when using bets that cover all 25 lines of the game. It will trigger at the end of the Fighting Fish free spins, as long as your wins are low enough. This feature is used to compensate you if the prizes won during free spins were too low.

You win 100 times the bet if the free spins didn’t give you a single cent as a prize. Prizes in the range of 2x to 100x can be had even if you did win something, as long as it wasn’t more than 10 times the bet.

Boiling Point Jackpots

This is an interesting feature, which brings you one of the progressive jackpots available. Each jackpot has a Boiling Point Gauge next to it, which indicates how close you are to the value where the jackpot absolutely must trigger. It can trigger at any time before that as well though.

Betting options and jackpots

The coins you use in these bets vary from $0.01 to $1, and that’s the only way to modify the line bet, since you can’t use more than one coin for each one. With 25 lines active, 25 coins are used and their maximum value is $25.

You are going to win up to 5,000 coins when the Red Sumo Fish applies its multiplier, or when you have five scatters. The cash value is $5,000.

Design and symbols

The game is a lot of fun, and I attribute it to the fighting fish and the action you will get from them when the bonus game starts. The design is just right for such a title that aims to be humorous as well. The depths of the ocean are seen in the background, with plants, shipwrecks and treasure chests at the bottom. The reels look like they have sand as their background, with symbols being poker cards that have plants next to them, or much better designed icons with themed images.

Symbols: Blue and Green Swordfish (wild), Red and Purple Sumo Fish (wild), Shipwreck (scatter, 200x bet), King Fish (2,500 coins), Queen Fish (1,500 coins), Treasure Chest (1,000 coins), Pearl Clam (750 coins), Ace (300 coins), King (300 coins), Queen (300 coins), Jack (200 coins), 10 (200 coins) and 9 (200 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

I believe it is worth playing, especially once you look at the features and you see that there are multipliers which can improve the prizes further.

The Duel in the Deep slot machine is offered through the NuWorks platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
