Daring Dave and the Eye of RA Slots

Daring-Dave-and-the-Eye-of-RAOnce you’ve started playing Daring Dave & The Eye of Ra, you’re going to discover a slot machine with an Egyptian theme, but it’s also about someone called Daring Dave. It’s an adventurer, an Indiana Jones like character that even has the same type of hat on his head. He’s looking for treasures, and it seems that he found them in this game. While the Egyptian angle is quite common, the adventurer topic is rarer, and I don’t remember the two mixing in another slot machine.

A rather standard number of lines is part of the 5 reels, 20 in total. Rewards of up to $250,000 are advertised, so reasons to play this game are plenty, even if you don’t look at the expanding wilds, scatter symbols or bonus games.

Features of Daring Dave and the Eye of RA

The game’s impressive features rely mostly on the expanding wild and on a multi-level bonus game. A couple of scatter symbols are also part of the slot’s feature list.

Daring Dave is present on a symbol with expanding capabilities. As an expanding wild, it takes over an entire reel when this gets the player a new combo formed. While all five reels get Daring Dave wilds on them, only the reels 2, 3 and 4 get the version that is capable of expanding. The other two reels have regular wild symbols on them. Since this symbol appears on all the reels, it can form a combination of its own, and it will pay up to 5,000x when this happens.

The first of the scatter symbols is a gold coin with the Eye of Ra on it. Its only role in the game is to offer prizes, in the form of total bet multiples. They start at the value of a single total bet, when you have two scattered symbols, and goes up from there. It can reach a top value of 125 times the bet.

The Quest For The Eye of Ra

The bonus game of this slot gets triggered when the right bonus symbol gets involved. The symbol has the Pyramid on it, so it’s quite easy to recognize. Having this symbol on the 1st and 5th reels, in the same round, will be the trigger for the bonus game.

A total of three levels are part of the feature, and at each stage you have to complete a task. You can only move on to the next stage when the previous task was completed. If you don’t complete it before the bonus game ends, then the next time you access the bonus game you continue from where you left off. Once you’ve went through all three levels, completing them successfully, you find the Eye of Ra and you get your big prize, which is valued at 75 times the total bet. Other smaller prizes are won along the way, each time you trigger the feature.

Episode I places Daring Dave in front of 8 stones, 4 on each side of a door. You have to push on stones to reveal the images behind them. Once you’ve located three Eye of Ra stones, the door will open. Three attempts at finding the right stones will be given during each bonus game you trigger.

Episode II takes you deeper into the pyramid. You’re in front of another door, which has a fortune wheel incorporated into it. You have three wheel spins during each bonus feature, which either give you the Eye of Ra or a cash prize. You need to activate three Eye of Ra symbols in order to advance further.

Episode III asks you to pick the correct pedestal, out of the three shown. You have one attempt at this, and if your pick is wrong the feature ends. It can take up to three triggers of the bonus game at this level, before you can get to the Eye of Ra and collect the big prize.

Betting options and jackpots

Coins can be quite valuable in this game, going up to $50, but starting at only $0.01. You can end up betting up to $1,000 on each spin, which would put you in high roller territory.

That kind of large bet can bring you a top payout of $250,000. It would be the equivalent of 5,000 coins.

Design and symbols

While I enjoyed the features offered by the game, the graphics are less impressive. The reason would partly be the collection of simple playing cards which are used and which appear on most positions on the reels, but it’s also the theme which has been chosen too many times in the past. I did enjoy the symbols with Egyptian gods on them though.

Symbols: Daring Dave (wild, 5,000 coins), Bonus Pyramid (scatter), Eye of Ra Coin (125x bet, scatter), Horus (750 coins), Anubis (500 coins), Thoth (300 coins), Lion (250 coins), Scarab (250 coins), Ace (100 coins), King (100 coins), Queen (75 coins), Jack (50 coins) and 10 (50 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

It’s an impressive game, doing great with its features, offering big prizes, but also coming with an Egyptian theme that I’m not a fan of. The addition of the explorer Dave in the game does improve it though.

The Daring Dave and the Eye of RA slot machine is offered through the Playtech platform, so if you want to play it for real or just to practice, look out for casinos that use it.
