Cosmic Quest Mystery Planets, Episode II Slots

Cosmic-Quest-Mystery-Planets-Episode-IIMystery Planets is the second of the Cosmic Quest slots, a series that comes from Rival Gaming. The design has been improved quite a bit in this episode, the drawing style no longer being as awkward as in the first title. The game still looks a bit retro, but that manages to add to its charm. The theme of the game seems to be focusing on alien planets this time, the design involving various kinds of worlds, plus probes and spacecraft that can land on them. It looks like a decent follow-up to the first episode, especially with the graphics being better.

With a few more paylines than its predecessor, 20 of them being available, Mystery Planets has the same 5 reels and very similar graphics. The features are not very different either, consisting in an expanding wild, a scatter symbol with a bonus game and a second scatter with free spins and multipliers. A $12,500 top jackpot is also available, identical to the prize from the first slot.

Features of Cosmic Quest Mystery Planets

The features remain largely the same, but some improvements were made here as well, and they do a lot to make this slot more attractive. The expanding wild is now available all the time, there are more free spins and they have multipliers as well. The bonus game is also present, though it’s a different one now.

The Yellow Rocket takes the place of the previous Red Rocket, and it’s an expanding wild. You get it both during the base game and during free spins. The expanding wild is capable of taking over up to three positions on a reel, as long as that gets you a winning combo on one of the paylines. If no win can be formed, it will remain at its original size, occupying one spot. The ability to substitute for other symbols of the wild comes in handy quite often, especially since it can expand. It is not its only advantage though, the wild also offering prizes of its own, the top jackpot included among them (5,000x).

Free Games Feature

A Jackpot Jetpack is what they call the symbol that triggers the free spins. The number of symbols scattered on the reels will give you a number of free spins, all of them with 2x multipliers. You get either 50, 25 or 10 spins, for 5, 4 or 3 scatter symbols, respectively.

Bonus Game

The Astronaut symbol (or Scatterstronaut, as they call it on the paytable) will act as a scatter symbol, appearing in at least three positions in order to trigger the bonus game. You can pick either Random Win or Skill Play, the latter being the better option usually. You use the arrow keys to go through the ship, collecting a prize once you get to the end.

Betting options and jackpots

As a player that wants to max out the wager in this game you will have to bet up to $50 per spin, using up to 200 coins. The lines each get up to 10 coins, with their denominations going up to $0.25. You end up with $2.50 line bets this way.

A $2.50 line bet can mean a maximum of $12,500, in this game where the top reward is at 5,000x the line wager.

Design and symbols

The design remains largely the same in Mystery Planets as it was in the first episode, or at least the outer area of the game is that way. Things have changed for the better in the reel area though, the drawing style in use now being slightly better. The picture of space used for the background actually looks majestic now, while the symbols on the reels no longer include characters, so the drawing style as a whole has improved as well.

Symbols: Yellow Rocket (wild, 5,000x), Jet Pack (scatter), Space Monkey (scatter), Red Planet (500x), Blue Planet (400x), Brown Planet (350x), Ring Planet (300x), Green Planet (150x), Landing Capsule (100x), Radio (100x), Space Robot (65x) and Moon (65x).

Is It Worth Playing?

The second episode of the Cosmic Quest series is even better than the first, the developers improving both the quality of the symbols and the features available inside. The prizes have remained at the same level, but in every other way this seems like the better choice.
