Red Sands Slots

Red-Sands-slotRed Sands is a typical RTG slot in many ways, but it does at least one thing differently and that’s the theme it was chosen for it. I’m talking about a game that is inspired by the Australian desert and the many different critters that live there, which you might have no idea about if you live in a different part of the world. It’s an area of the world that can be deadly, but also incredibly beautiful despite it being a desert. The Kangaroo is the one you’re sure to recognize, but there are more creatures living there, as you will find out from this slot.

As I was saying above, this is a typical slot for RTG, offering its prizes of up to $25,000, using 5 reels (this is normal for all slots, not just RTG) and up to 20 paylines (they love using 20 or 25 lines). You get the complete list of features, including the free games, the re-spins, multipliers, wilds and scatters. Even a small progressive jackpot is included, to make sure they didn’t miss anything.

Features of Red Sands

Though on paper it might sound like this game is full of wonderful features, the reality is that they can be slightly limited, or at least that’s the case with the re-spin option.

The most famous of the creatures that appear in the game, the Kangaroo, is going to be used as a wild. It can substitute for other symbols, naturally, but it can’t do it for the scatter symbol. It also comes with a multiplier that doubles payouts of combinations that it helped form. When it appears on its own on paylines, it forms combinations with just wilds and it awards up to 5,000 coins (the top jackpot).

The Moonscape symbol is a fairly typical scatter. Your first proof will be when you get rewarded with a prize whenever you have a minimum of two Moonscapes on the reels, in a random position. If you have more of them, you get better rewards (up to 50x the triggering bet).

Re-Spin Feature

The reason why I mentioned before that this feature is somewhat limited is because it needs 2+ scatters that appear either starting from the left or the right of the reels, and then they also have to be on consecutive reels. However, if that does happen, you get 10 free re-spins while the scatter reels are kept in place.

Unfortunately, you only get paid for the scatter triggered payouts obtained during these free re-spins, so any other symbols that might form combinations are lost to you (you don’t get the top jackpot, even if you have five wilds on the same line). On the other hand, the Kangaroo can substitute for a scatter symbol for the duration of these re-spins, plus they use their multiplier and double their payouts.

If the feature was triggered by 5 scatter symbols (no reels left to re-spin), then you get 10 times the scatter prize (500x the bet total).

Betting options and jackpots

The betting system employed by RTG is the one they’ve been reusing for most of their slots, so if you’re a fan of their work you might know already what kind of requirements are in place. It uses 20 coins valued at $5, with a total of $100 being used per spin. The coins can be reduced to $0.01 at their lowest setting, and you can also reduce the number of coins/lines that are used.

Red Sands will give you a chance to win 5,000 coins, which would be based on the line wager that you’ve made. With the coins set to maximum value, the value would be $25,000. It’s a decent amount, which could prove life changing for some, as long as it’s handled properly. A random progressive jackpot is also within reach in this game, but its value is lower than the game’s own prize.

Design and symbols

The red of the Australian desert is predominant in the game’s design, and the view you see at the top is desolate, with small areas of grass placed in a couple of spots. There are two Kangaroos sitting on both sides of the jackpot area, while symbols are part playing cards, part desert animals.

Symbols: Kangaroo (wild, 5,000x), Moonscape (scatter, 50x the bet), Koala (1,500x), Desert Rodent (1,000x), Porcupine (500x), Ace (200x), King (200x), Queen (125x), Jack (125x), Ten (100x), Nine (100x).

Is It Worth Playing?

Red Sands will give you a chance to experience how beautiful the Australian desert can be, despite being incredibly dangerous. It will offer you a re-spin feature that is different from the free games you might be used to, but at least it has the potential for payouts of up to 500 times your bet. Overall, the game is interesting enough to deserve a chance.

You will find Red Sands at any online casino which chooses to use software from RTG, playable either for free or for real money.
