City of Gold Slots

City-of-GoldCity of Gold is built around a long lost civilization from South America, one that has left behind pyramids similar to those created in Egypt, along with treasures consisting in all kinds of gold jewelry. You actually get to see the city that is made out of gold in the background, though it’s more like an orange/brown combo and not that clear at first that it’s a precious metal. Wager Gaming is the creator of this slot machine, and for a game that is themed around an entire city made out of precious metals, I have high expectations from it.

You can win up to $60,000 from City of Gold, the requirement being that you wager on its 25 lines and spin its 5 reels. The wild symbol is going to give you the big prize, and you will also encounter along the way scatters, free spins and multipliers.

Features of City of Gold

You’re not going to discover any surprising features in City of Gold, they’re pretty much the standard ones, including two types of symbols (wild and scatter) and one feature round (with free spins).

The Ancient Temple gets to act as a wild symbol and that’s why you’re going to be happy to see even a single one show up. While it can create combinations of up to five symbols and give you payouts of 6,000 coins, the wild is useful when it appears alone because it helps out with other combinations, being part of the symbols used to create them. The wild takes another symbol’s place and that’s how it manages to do that. The only symbol that the Temple wild can’t replace is an Archway scatter.

The Archway is the scatter symbol, and it will show you the entrance into the city, being made out of solid gold itself. The name of the scatter comes from its ability to trigger free spins or cash prizes without being on the same line with its symbols, their scattered appearance on random reels being enough if the right number of symbols is there. The cash prizes start being offered when there are just two Archways present, getting you 2x the bet, but continue growing after that, up to 100x the bet for five Archways.

Free Games Feature

The standard way to trigger a round of free spins is to get a minimum of three scatter symbols on the reels, and that’s exactly how City of Gold does it as well. Three or more Archways are sufficient to accomplish this feat and in return you get 15 spins for free, plus the 3x multiplier that triples all the prizes you get from them.

Betting options and jackpots

Most of the slots from Wager Gaming have a fairly predictable betting system. This is the case with City of Gold as well, where you select 1 to 25 coins of $0.01 to $10 and you get 25 active lines as a result. The wagers go from $0.01 to $250, and you’re the one that decides the exact values selected.

As for the big prize, you get 6,000 coins when five wilds take over a payline, which should bring you up to $60,000.

Design and symbols

Since this game is themed around a city that is made out of gold, you get to see it in the background picture, though not in as much detail as I would’ve wanted. Instead, you see a simple building made out of gold, not the entire city, plus a lot of playing cards on the reels and some themed icons that are rare to the sight. The game is far from a great title, especially since the symbols you see all the time are the ones with playing cards.

Symbols: Temple (6,000 coins, wild), Archway (100x the bet, scatter), Gold Idol (3,000 coins), Necklace (1,000 coins), Frog (500 coins), Flowers (500 coins), Ace (250 coins), King (250 coins), Queen (200 coins), Jack (200 coins), Ten (100 coins) and Nine (100 coins).

Is It Worth Playing?

The theme has some potential, but I’m not a huge fan of the design. The prize is decent, but that’s the main redeeming quality, with the features being the same as in every other Wager Gaming title.

This City of Gold slot is offered by all online casinos with Wager Gaming software, playable either in practice or in real money mode.
